Congratulations to the Ascension Collegiate Table Tennis Team on winning the regional qualification tournament at Roncalli Central High on Friday, February 7. All of the players represented the school very well and play extremely well. The team will play in the provincial tournament on Pilley's Island on February 22. Go Astros!!

Ascension Students and Staff bring in gifts for the Happy Tree. The Salvation Army will collect the gifts which will be distributed to children in our area for Christmas.
NL Winter Games, Here We Come
The Ascension Collegiate Male Volleyball team will be representing the Avalon Region at the Newfoundland and Labrador Winter games this coming March. Thanks to a 3-0 finish at the Regional playdowns, which were held on Monday, December 16th, the team can look forward to the opportunity to represent the region while participating in one of the province's most esteemed events. Congratulations Astros and best of luck at the Games!
Ascension Collegiate hosted its Awards Ceremony on the evening of December 17th. The evening was a great success and as you can see the graduates of 2013 were elated!

Students and Staff of Ascension Collegiate donate $800 to the Red Cross to support Typhoon Relief in the Philippines.
Nicole Kennedy and Vanessa Jones attended "Let's Talk Science Conference: Empowering Women to Fuel the Future" in Gander on November 21-23, 2013. This conference explored the role of women in Science and Engineering as it related to the oil and gas industry and was sponsored by Hibernia and Memorial University. This was a great opportunity for students across the province to explore career interests in the science and engineering field. Promoting Physical Activity
The NLTA's Education Week and School Sports NL teamed up this year to promote physical activity in schools. Ascension's Healthy Living 1200 classes took this opportunity to partake in learning about Northern Games activities, including challenges such as leg wrestling, bench reach, stick pull and high kicks. Students pushed themselves physically and discovered they had the ability to do a high kick over their own height and hop on foot for over four minutes.
Visiting Castle Hill
On Thursday, September 19 the French 3201 and Franšais 1202 students and their teachers, Madame Shortall and Madame Lawrence, travelled to Plaisance (Placentia), the former French capital of Newfoundland. Their first stop was at St. Anne's Academy in Dunville where they viewed the school's mural which depicts the history of the Placentia area. While in Placentia the group visited Castle Hill National Historic site, the archeological site, the O'Reilly House and St. Luke's church.
Congratulations to the Ascension boys softball team on winning the regional championship.

The Eastern School Board is in the process of developing a new strategic plan for 2011-2014. As part of this process, parents and guardians are invited to participate in a web-based survey to seek feedback on six key questions.
The information gathered from this planning process will assist the Eastern School Board establish its strategic direction, goals and objectives for continuous improvement of the Eastern School District over the next three years.
