Dialect


Upper Island Cove is well known for its diverse and unique culture. Their dialect for instance is very different. They may drop their "th's" and add an "h" where it doesn't belong. For example "the" may be pronounced as "duh" and "ice" may become "hice".

In Island Cove, people often use nicknames as surnames. There is a great abundance of people with the same last name. The most common nickname today is 'Tooch' for Mercer. There are many others such as 'Stick' for Crane and 'Tray' for Drover.
