The French Department at Ascension has been having a very busy second semester. The following are some major highlights that we have participated in over the past few weeks and that are upcoming. 1. Le Concours d'Art Oratoire
On Thursday, March 07, 2002 Ascension held its annual French speak-off. Twenty-four students in four categories participated. The event went extremely well and students did an outstanding job! The winners are as follows:

2. Le Carnaval d'Hiver
On Thursday, March 14 Ascension held its 10th annual Carnaval d'Hiver. Students participated in a number of activities at the Lions Club in Bay Roberts before going to Port-de-Grave for lunch. The ACW at St. Luke's Hall prepared a delicious meal for the 60 teachers and students involved. The meal consisted of French cuisine which included: soup, croissants, quiche, poutine, mousse au chocolat and cake. A number of prizes were distributed including those for the most spirited male and female students. The French department would like to thank our French monitrice, Ingrid Levesque, for her outstanding effort in once again making our carnival a reality. Her hard work and dedication are very much appreciated.
3. Baccalieu Trail Youth Council
A number of students from the Affaires et Entrepreneuriat/Économie classes will be attending an idea sharing workshop in Carbonear on Friday, March 22. This event will be sponsored by the Baccalieu Trail Youth Council.
4. "French for the Future"
On April 16, nineteen French Immersion from Ascension will attend a national conference in St. John's. They will be linked via satellite with students from eight other cities across Canada. Highlights of the conference include: active workshops, live music and a satellite link with the other cities.
5. Foire d'Entreprise 2002
The business/economics students will be holding the annual Foire d'Entreprise on April 26 in the gymnasium of the school. Students are responsible for inventing and marketing an original product or service. Visiting students will have the opportunity to vote on their favorite product or service for which the winning team will be awarded a prize.
6. Voyage à Saint-Pierre
Plans are also on the way for a trip to Saint-Pierre. Twenty core-French and French immersion students and two teachers will be visiting for three days in May.
