Welcome to our webpage! As part of our studies in Canadian History 1201, we have researched and created this webpage about the Newfoundland Rangers and the Great Depression.
When the Great Depression hit Newfoundland and Labrador in the early 1930s, the then independent country was already suffering financially. The monetary loss became so great that Newfoundland and Labrador had to go back to being goverened by Britain, losing it's own representative government. In the wake of this political crisis, the Newfoundland Ranger Force was born and, as we have discovered, the Rangers were one of the main reasons why Newfoundlanders and Labradorians were able to cope through this difficult period of history before World War II and our eventual Confederation with Canada.
Explore our page and discover the conditions in Newfoundland and Labrador leading up to and including the Depression years. Get to know how the people of our province and how they dealt with adversity. Discover the Newfoundland Ranger Force and the respect they eventually received from the people.
