Daffodil Place Donation !

In an effort to promote social
awareness and offer support to both present and former students
and staff members who have been affected by cancer, June 2 was
designated “Daffodil Place Day” at Ascension Collegiate, Bay
Roberts. Students and Staff were made aware of the Canadian
Cancer Society’s efforts to build Daffodil Place in St.
John’s, which will offer support to cancer patients and their
families, especially those who have to travel long distances
from their home for treatments. Daffodil Place will serve to
alleviate some of the financial burdens associated with these
treatments. Students and staff members willingly and generously
supported this event and are proud to announce that on June 9th,
2008 one of our Level 3 student representatives, Andrew Green,
presented a cheque in the amount of $2000.00 to Lindsey
Saunders, Development Coordinator for Daffodil Place. For their
generous donation, Ascension Collegiate receives the designation
of “Friend”. In addition to this initiative centering around
social awareness and community involvement, Ascension students,
staff, and school groups have supported and made donations to
the CBN Aids Walk, The Helping Hand, Clothes for Kids, The
Janeway Hospital, the 30 Hour Famine and the Trinity- Conception
Telethon. All of this indicates that caring for others is alive
and well at Ascension Collegiate.
Living Healthy Commotions
Day...Friday September 26

On Friday, September 26, students and
teachers at Ascension Collegiate participated in “Living
Healthy Commotions Day”, to celebrate our achievements in
making our school a healthy place to learn, and to promote
healthy eating and active living.
A large variety of nutritious snacks was
prepared by staff and students and served to the entire student
body during recess and lunch. Students had an opportunity to
sample a wide variety of fresh and dried fruits, juices,
vegetables and low fat dip, as well as a variety of pre-packaged
snacks (granola bars, bran bites, etc.). Fresh guacamole and
hummus spreads were also introduced and seemed to be widely
accepted by students. Empty tables at the end of lunch hour were
evidence that students fully enjoyed the tasting opportunity!
In addition, over 200 students also
participated in the Terry Fox Walk, getting some healthy
exercise while successfully raising over $600. in support of
cancer research.

MADD Presentation !

Student Council Co-Presidents,
Shaina Norman and Justin Dawson, presented MADD representative
with an honorarium cheque towards their continued work.
Ascension students saw a multi-media presentation on the
dangers of drinking and drugs. The one hour presentation was
powerful and emotional in getting the message across to
students.
